Roles and Responsibilities


Clean and maintain all water features across the estate so they are always looking at their best.

Responsible to the movement and delivery of all required plants and materials to their required location and the correct operation of any vehicles and equipment.

Ensure seasonal planting is planned for and ordered in a timely manner.

Manage the greenhouse and develop plants and flowers to compliment the overall estate.

Develop good composting regimes that support the organic nature of the estate.

Manage the forestry elements of the estate which include a tree preservation area.

Manage historical formal gardens and ensure their longevity within the estate.

Ensure that all lawns and beds are in the best condition throughout the seasonal changes.

Offer advice and specialist knowledge to the estate regarding its ongoing development.

Manage a gardens team and contractors as required.

Budget Control / Stock management.

Be able to use Word & Excel.

Work with the Chief Engineer, Facilities Manager to deliver the best service across the estate.

Any other tasks required to support the estate.

Eligibility


The Head Gardener is expected to have worked at the highest level, with proven experience of working in renowned private gardensI. The Head Gardener is expected to work in partnership with the other members of the estate team to deliver the highest level of operational performance. You should be educated to an acceptable level and be able to demonstrate a wide range of skills and knowledge within your respective discipline.

RHS / NVQ / SVQ / BTEC in Horticulture, Forestry, Floristry and Conservation qualifications are preferred, but proven and relevant experience and longevity in roles counts for a lot in this field.

Flexibility and adaptability to juggle a range of different tasks and to work extra hours to meet deadlines.

Discretion and an understanding of confidentiality issues.

Additional Notes

This is a demanding and high pressure role running a private estate at 7* level. This role would best suit someone who is at the very top of their discipline and wants to take themselves and their team to the next level.
