Chef | Ibiza

Salary: 60,000 to 70,000 Euros

Note: A freelance chef has been employed to cover the Christmas and New Year period, so the search for a full time chef will be postponed until the New Year.........

We are looking to find a full-time, talented, friendly and passionate chef, for our lovely clients who have an estate on the island of Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands, which is fully-staffed and maintained operational all year round.

The family are British, consisting of: parents, their 2 grown up children and 2 grandchildren. They use the property as much as time, and school holidays, allow. However, as a rule, their goal is to make 2 visits each year, each for a maximum of 90 days, so 180 days a year in total.

The estate, which is on the north-west side of the island, is situated in a rural setting, so the chef must be a driver, as public transport is almost non-existent!

There are three full-time household staff. The principal housekeeper is extremely efficient and the houses are kept in excellent condition without supervision.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Estate is made up of 4 villas, set amongst lovely gardens, orchards and olive groves.

The Principals live in the main villa, while the 3 other villas are used by their children, family and guests.

The chef cooks in a large, very well equipped kitchen, situated in the main villa, and the family and guests are invited to eat with the Principals, on the terrace or in the winter and bad-weather eating area.

No cooking is offered at the other villas.

The chef is responsible for sourcing produce, going to markets and running the kitchen to a high standard.

One member of the family enjoys very English food while the rest of the family are much more adventurous and prefer to eat lots of: fish, fruit and vegetables which are incorporate into Mediterranean, Japanese, Pacific Rim, Mexican & Indian dishes etc.

In essence, the family all love good food, the the sourcing of ingredients and have an interest in trying new dishes and they will embrace new ideas and tastes.

The exception is Christmas, when they all tend to be in residence, and love very traditional English Christmas and Boxing Day dishes!

The client's great passion is the garden and the grounds, which she actively works and develops herself. There is a large vegetable garden, from which the chef is encouraged to pick produce,  along with orchards and olive groves, which are used to produce their own cold press olive oil. The family take great pleasure in eating items from the garden, so the chef is expected to find interesting ways to use the produce and preserve items, especially during quiet times, for the family to enjoy at later times in the year.

Accommodation

There are 2 options available

Option 1: The chef can be provided with accommodation on the estate, which is a separate cottage with its own entrance and parking area,  it has a sitting room which includes a small kitchenette and there is a double bed room and a bathroom. (it is lovely, but suits 1 person)

Option 2: A 2 bedroom apartment, away from the estate, is more suited to a chef with a partner. The apartment is owned by the family, is more basic, as it has been rented out on short term rentals - but could be made into a home.

Entry Requirements

  • The chef must be a driver - this is absolutely essential
  • The chef must offer a relaxed and calm personality, and show they are able to adapt to change and last-minute requests without fuss
  • The chef must be a team player
  • The chef must show they understand that this type of role will sometimes require long hours in the kitchen, but these occasions are amply recompensed against the periods when the family are not in residence
  • The chef must show an obvious passion for their profession
  • The chef must enjoy working with their clients, creating menus together, while embracing the opportunity to use home-grown and local ingredients
  • The chef must be resourceful, and relish the opportunity to find new ways to use garden produce
