Chef | International Travel (Rotation)

Circa £70,000 PA

 

We are looking for a top private chef to work for an internationally renowned family with established homes in The United Kingdom, America & Canada. 

The purpose of the Private Chef is to provide culinary services to a prominent  family at each of their respective dwellings.  The Private Chef would be part of a two-person chef team, working in rotation, working 1 month on and 1 month off, the chef will be required to travel for extensive periods of time, but will have the opportunity to return home for his/her time off. 

The chef will report to the executive chef, while and the primary contacts of the position will include:

  • Functional departments within the Corporate and Family Office (HR, Finance, etc.).
  • Estate and Operational Managers at various locations.
  • Principal’s Private Secretary.

 

Complexities of this role include:

  • The nature of the role is one that requires that any individual involved must be able and willing to work at odd hours, like very early in the morning to prepare meals for the day, and late at night, clean-up after the day’s work.
  • Working in different locations will come with different logistical challenges.
  • Being away for extended periods of time and traveling with the Principals.

  2. Alternatively, candidates should hold a Canadian passport.

Roles and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include a full range of Culinary related activities including but not limited to:

  • The responsibility for cooking and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner for an elderly couple (the Principals) and on occasion, their immediate family and grandchildren. Sporadic dinner parties are also a common occurrence and can vary in size.
  • The preparation, seasoning, and decorating meals and dishes in ways that suit the requirements or orders that are placed by the Principals.
  • Monitoring and/or supervising the preparation and administration of meals from the kitchen by other staff members.
  • Maintain inventory levels to ensure pantry and refrigerators are appropriately stocked with fresh food and ingredients, place necessary orders, and makes sure that food safety standards are always adhered to.
  • Create menus that tend to suit the needs of Principals, and in some cases suggest new dishes to them.
  • Complete regular cleaning and disinfecting of work equipment, various kitchen surfaces and areas as well as the organization and cleaning of refrigerators.

Entry Requirements

Experience and Knowledge

  • Maintain good and respectful relationship with Principals Household Staff and Suppliers.
  • Good and effective communication skills so as to be able to pass ideas across to other members of the team and also understand what the Principals needs are.
  • Good leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Highly developed organization skills with a proven ability to prioritize and string sense of urgency and results orientated.
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate activities in pressing situations.
  • Good time management skills to complete much tasks and meet set targets.
  • Must be creative and proactive in attending to the various needs of Principals.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • A respectable knowledge of food handling and environmental sanitation standards.
  • Must have valid driver’s license & a clean criminal record.
  • A formal training in the Culinary Arts.
  • Any other form of certification in catering would be of added advantage.
  • At least 6 years of work experience as a chef in any good and reputable establishment.
  • A minimum of 1 year in a chef-supervisory role.

  • Energetic attitude with comfort working independently or as part of a team
  • Training in French Cuisine
  • Michelin star status
  • Ability to work in multiple countries.
  • Ability to manage high volume of work with a small team, in a fast-paced, ever evolving environment.
