Cook/Housekeeper | Lowlands of Scotland

£35,000 Gross + Self Contained Accommodation

We are looking for a cheerful, upbeat Cook/Housekeeper to join a small team, to work alongside a housekeeper and other household staff, at a stunning shooting lodge, located in the lowlands of Scotland, near the border of England.

The Cook Housekeeper will help ensure that The Lodge is maintained to the highest standard possible, and in a permanent state of preparation for occupancy, so that family, their guests or paying guests may arrive at short-notice.

When The Principal and/or guests are in residence, the Cook Housekeeper's role will be largely kitchen based, undertaking:

  • meal/menu planning, food preparation, and management of ingredients and stock, fridges and freezers etc, and
  • the cooking of healthy dishes, along with both lunches, dinners and teas that are of a good standard, which are tasty, nutritious, and well-presented.

Fresh produce is grown on the Estate, so in an effort to make the most of all the produce of the estate to minimise any waste, we are looking for someone who uses the quiet times to harvest produce before making jams, marmalades, chutneys and/or sauces, fillings and purees which can be frozen or bottled.

Because this is a shooting estate, some knowledge of cooking with game would be extremely beneficial - although not indispensable.

There are occasions when a freelance chef is hired to help cater busier periods and/or the paid shoots, so on these occasions, the cook/housekeeper will act as their sous-chef offering vital support.

When The Principals are not in residence, the role will be predominantly focussed on housekeeping duties, helping with the general day-to-day duties of maintaining the Lodge in good, clean working order. During these periods, it is essential that a strict rotational cleaning regime is maintained to ensure the expected standard of service, and top-notch level of cleaning and housekeeping are maintained, so that The Lodge and its annexes, including guest cottages and private chapel, are presented in a permanent state of readiness.

Candidates must present with a sunny and upbeat disposition, and should be able to provide excellent checkable references

Must be able to drive / owning your own car would be beneficial.  Please note this estate is located in the lowlands near the border of England - so the location is considered remote.

NOTE: Although a couple role is not offered, to cook/housekeeper may live in the accommodation with their partner, children and/or pets.
