Purpose of job:

To work as part of a team, maintaining the gardens and landscape of this beautiful estate, in an efficient and high quality manner to ensure a beautiful garden is on display and always presenting itself to the highest standards.

Reporting to: Head of Gardens

Contract type: Full-time & permanent

Salary:  Competitive | Dependant On Experience

Hours: 7:30am – 3:30pm in the Winter season and 7:30am – 4:30pm in the summer season. Weekend work is required, which is on a rota basis, roughly on day per weekend once a month or every 6 weeks (depending on the rota and requirements) the Monday will be taken off for weekend work.

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. To ensure that the gardens and grounds are beautifully presented and kept to the highest standards;
  2. grounds maintenance including planting, pruning, weeding, strimming, clearing leaves, watering and general maintenance activities;
  3. assist the team with soft and hard landscaping, including planting and setting out as required;
  4. mowing and associated task on both pedestrian and ride on machines;
  5. light cleaning;
  6. in winter, snow clearing and salt spreading;
  7. comply with health and safety legislation and safe working practices.

 

Entry Requirements

  1. Good practical skills in soft landscaping and grounds maintenance;
  2. wide range of machinery skills including strimmer’s, leaf blowers, mowers and tractor etc;
  3. knowledge of plants, garden management and broad range of horticultural skills;
  4. Horticulture Level 3 or 5 years working in a horticultural environment;
  5. physically fit with previous experience in similar manual work;
  6. good interpersonal skills including the ability to inspire colleagues and work as part of a team;
  7. enthusiastic, self- motivated, and flexible;
  8. understands sensitivity of working within a private estate;
  9. understands health and safety issues relating to gardening and public spaces;
  10. previous experience working in a quality garden or park.
