A long-standing client is looking to hire a Junior Butler, to join their team, at their home in the heart of London.

This exciting vacancy is now available for a junior butler. We are looking for candidates who can show they are ready to take the next step in their career, by looking to improve their knowledge and experience, by working alongside a large established household team, in a prestigious, dynamic property located in central London.

The position requires someone who will cover for the House Manager, and work both Saturday and Sunday, taking their 2 days off mid-week

The Junior Butler will be happy working in a large established team, which is made up of: House-manager, Facility Manager, Housekeepers, Chefs, Driver, EPAs and administration staff, along with other support staff, comprised of contract gardeners and pool cleaning services etc.

The candidate must fit seamlessly into the existing team, be able to show they are quick learners, with an established eye for detail, and the ability to think on their feet. Whilst training will be provided, the Junior Butler must already be sufficiently confident to lead the provision of butler services to the family on weekends and assist the house manager with food and drink preparations and service for lunch and dinner parties hosted by the principals.

In addition to providing traditional Butler services, the Junior Butler will be required to assist the House Manager and The Facility Manager with general duties around the property, which may include, monitoring outside terrace and marquee areas, preparing the tennis court for play, assisting with cinemas / movie installation, and running errands etc etc

Hours of Work

  • Saturday & Sunday cover:  9/10 am until finish
  • Weekdays: more normally 9/10 am until 6 pm

Roles and Responsibilities

Butler Duties:

  • The proper maintenance and regular upkeep of household silver and tableware
  • Assisting and on weekends leading in the preparation and mise-en-place of dining tables, trays used for service and wet bars etc
  • Ensuring the proper presentation of table flowers (clean water / dead-headed etc).
  • Assisting / leading the service of food and beverage to Principals, family and Guests at working breakfasts, dinner and lunch parties, afternoon teas, meetings, etc. 
  • Provision of Butler and silver-service skills as required. 
  • Assisting the Principals' and Guests' with their arrivals and departures
  • Porter-ing deliveries, purchases, or gifts to the right places
  • Unpacking/packing suitcases
  • Provision of valeting services. Including shoe and boot care.
  • Updating wine cellar inventories as stock is used.
  • Updating of Principals' and guests’ food and beverage and service preferences.

 

Household & Miscellaneous Duties

  • Running errands
  • Supervision of service vendors including liaising with contractors such as beauticians, masseurs etc. and supervising their smooth arrival and departure from the property
  • Assisting the Facility Manager with ad-hoc maintenance duties such as changing lightbulbs, maintain terraces/marquee, cinema, tennis & pool preparation etc.
  • Maintaining and checking technical operations, reporting defects to the Facility Manager
  • Undertake Housekeeping duties such as refreshing reception rooms, cloakrooms, family kitchen and dining areas. 
  • Spot checking presentation of the interiors and outside areas, putting right issues when possible and/or reporting concerns to the relevant team member. 
  • Monitor ongoing food and beverage supplies to ensure proper stock is maintained and expiry dates and good stock rotation are observed
  • Follow security procedures put in place by the security team to ensure the property is secure at all times.
  • Will be required to carry out other tasks the Principals, House Manager, Facility Manager, EPA or Security Manager may reasonably ask.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Have an established home in or close to London
  • Have the legal right to work and live in the UK
  • Present excellent work experience and checkable references.
  • Provide a DBS (GBD can assist with the application if needed)
  • Show flexibility, as you will be needed sometimes to be available to start early/ work late.
  • Be a team player, with a positive, cheerful disposition, who is able to work alongside the team, ensuring efficiency, harmony, and high morale.
  • Respectful of the importance of maintaining the family’s privacy.
