1 year contract / To provide convalescence cover for existing employee – this could be extended.

We are seeking a well-presented, hard-working, kind, and friendly Houseman/ Driver to  work as part of a small team, which includes: 2 daily-cleaners and a gardener, in a beautiful old Priory located just outside the picturesque market-town of Cirencester in the Cotswolds.

This rambling property includes numerous bedroom suites, reception rooms, family kitchen, a dining-room, family-room and games-room. There is also an indoor swimming pool, a summer house, tennis court and tennis pavilion.

The owner and his family lead busy lives and travel internationally, so the property is used intermittently, therefore we are looking for a driven, motivated, and conscientious employee, who can work with limited direction, and deliver practiced, high standards.

The role is live in, offers a  1 bedroom apartment and utility bills are covered. Based on a 5-day week, there is the necessity to work/provide cover over weekends.

Candidates need to be a good energetic all-rounder with a can-do attitude. Discretion is a prerequisite, as are excellent communication skills, flexibility and a calm nature.

Dress code – Suit/Shirt when driving the principal, family and guests and practical, smart work clothes for everyday work.

Salary: Circa £3300/£3500 per month + accommodation and utilities.

Roles and Responsibilities

Responsibilities to Include

The candidate must split their time between, Houseman, Handyman and Driving duties.

Handyman/Houseman Responsibilities

  • Helping the housekeepers with some high cleaning duties etc;
  • Cleaning fire grates, laying fires, ensuring wood, paper and kindling baskets are full;
  • Ensure outside lights and lanterns are clean and working;
  • Replace light bulbs throughout the house as needed;
  • Ensure audio & visual, including televisions and satellite services are working;
  • Check wi-fi connectivity and remedy any problems which occur;
  • Ensure alarm system is always functioning, armed and disarmed when necessary;
  • Ensure the heating system is working, maintained and serviced as required;
  • Help gardeners with keeping gutters and hoppers clear of leaves etc;
  • Wipe down external paintwork and outside garden furniture;
  • Sweeping and jet washing hard surfaces including fronf door steps and sun terrace;
  • Manage small DIY jobs, such as: painting a window sill, oiling teak furniture, or hanging a picture etc
  • Look after the family dog, ensuring exercise, feeding regimes and proper care are given, and
  • Run errands and assist collogues, including shopping trips, food shopping and delivering flowers, gifts and hand delivered notes as instructed etc;
  • Maintain accurate monthly accounts for petty cash

Driving Responsibilities

  • Clean and valet the family’s car, ensuring road tax and insurance etc is up to date 
  • Drive The Principal, family and guests to meetings and appointments, evening events or parties, airport and railway pick-up/drop-offs etc. (Candidates must be familiar and super comfortable with driving on motorways and in central London).

  • Must show flexibility to work occasional ad-hoc hours and weekends as needed;
  • Must be hands-on and very practically minded;
  • Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Excellent English and communication skills;
  • Must be super hands-on with good attitude, high energy, and strong work ethic, and
  • Must show proven organizational and time-management skills.
