House Manager / Butler Vacancy.

The employee will support The Estate Manager to ensure the effective and efficient operation of The Estate property and the wider estate, which includes: a large and historically important main house, multi-purpose land, made over to: formal gardens, temporary and permanent pasture, woodland, animal and arable farming, and some land is made available for wild game, and there are rivers and ponds.

The House Manager/ Butler will work closely with The Estate Manager and the estate’s team, with a primary responsibility to ensure the main house and annexes are maintained to the appropriate standard, with everything kept in immaculate state of readiness, so that everything is in perfect order for The Family and their guests, who use this gorgeous home at set times through the year - mainly summer.

The House Manager / Butler is expected to act as an ambassador both on the estate and in the wider community, by representing the owners in a faultless light, while working to uphold and promote their beliefs and principles, conserve and care for the fabric of the building and its contents, while maintaining budgets and observing schedules.

Beautiful self-contained accommodation is offered with the job, utilities are paid, and partners are welcome as would a pet.

Roles and Responsibilities

The House Manger/Butler's main duties are to ensure that:

  • All facilities are maintained in impeccable and fully functional conditions;
  • Ensure that dining areas, meeting rooms, offices, reception spaces and areas used by family and guests are constantly kept clean and in good repair;
  • Ensure that employee accommodation, dining and recreational facilities meet the prescribed standards;
  • Undertake and/or manage prescribed maintenance tasks;
  • Supervision of seasonal and/or temporary staff;
  • Working independently or with contracted engineering and maintenance service providers to ensure all repairs and preventive maintenance for all buildings (interior and exterior), other structures (gates, fences, etc), gardens and land are carried out in an efficient and timely manner.
  • You are to represent and stand in for the Estate Manager when required.
  • You are expected to work with integrity and congeniality in all matters and communicate with the community in a courteous manner that engenders respect and goodwill.
  • Part of the role is to live on site in the lovely accommodation which is provided.

 

Service & Customer Specific Responsibilities

  • To provide Butler duties, which will require that candidates understand and provide personalised and timely service, including  meal and drink service, valet and wardrobe assistance to members of The Family and their guests
  • Ability to acknowledge, welcome and greet The Family using the appropriate levels of discretion, and the correct forms of address
  • Display a polite and correct manner
  • Ability to spontaneously engage in formal and natural conversation with The Family and guests while never being over familiar
